Mobile’s Critical Repair Grant Program Expands to Assist More Homeowners

The City of Mobile has significantly expanded its Critical Repair Grant Program, aiming to assist a greater number of homeowners in need of essential roof repairs. This initiative, administered by the Neighborhood Development Department, focuses on addressing serious issues that threaten the safety and livability of homes.

Traditionally funded through federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the program has received an additional $900,000 in discretionary funding. This substantial increase is expected to raise the number of households served from approximately 75 to more than 220.

Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “By tripling the reach of our Critical Repair Grant Program, we are taking a significant step toward ensuring that more Mobilians have safe and secure homes.”

Eligible homeowners are encouraged to apply for the program to benefit from the available financial support for roof replacements. For more information on eligibility criteria and the application process, residents can contact the Neighborhood Development Department or visit the city’s official website.
